The arms were one of
the last designed by the late Sir Peter Gwynn-Jones, prior to his
retirement as Garter King of Arms in March 2010. The mermaid
represents the fantasy of the dynamic unconscious, and relates to the
armigers profession as a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist. The crown is
the symbol of St Stephen, and represents the surname Stevenson. Lotus
flowers suggest the possibility of spiritual transformation, themes of
the armiger’s theological education, practice of tai chi, and painting
of icons and retablos. As the armiger has never married, her arms are
displayed on a lozenge, topped by a true lover’s knot of blue ribbon.
The badge was suggested by Sir Peter based on images in one of the
armigers paintings, and is an example of the whimsy and elegance he
brought to his art. |

The armiger is a

Jerusalem and a Dame of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus.
