The anchors and
serpents commemorate an ancestor, Henry Plowman, who was a Surgeon,
Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Henry Plowman served as Surgeon
to Captain Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy Bart. from October 1811 to 1815
in HMS Barfleur and HMS Ramillies.
The demi-savage seems to be common to most Plowman arms while the
sword and shepherd's crook tie in with the motto which translated
means Guard and Guide. |
